Melissa Coleman grew up in Winston-Salem and Walnut Cove, North Carolina. She graduated from Centenary University in Hackettstown, New Jersey with a B.F.A. in Fashion Design.
She learned to sew at a very young age sitting with her grandmother at the Singer sewing machine. In high school, she redesigned garments from Goodwill for a home economics class project, which impressed the teacher who encouraged Melissa to pursue an education in fashion. After receiving an A.A.S. in Marketing & Retail from Forsyth Technical Community College, Melissa went on to further her education in fashion at Centenary University.
She spent five years working in the New York City fashion district which she fondly refers to as her “Devil wears Prada days”. Her time in NYC was a valuable learning experience; she embraced the opportunity to learn every aspect of how to run a successful apparel company.
After moving back to North Carolina, she started her career at Hanesbrands in merchandising. Since then she has worked on a multitude of brands and product lines for HBI and is now a Senior Manager of Design for the company.
When she is not working, Melissa enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons as well as family and friends. She also enjoys making jewelry, painting and of course sewing.
